Free PDF Password Remover

Unlock a restricted or password-protected PDF entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, ever.

What this does: removes password protection or usage restrictions from a PDF entirely in your browser using pdf-lib and pdf.js. A PDF with no encryption at all is re-saved directly with no quality loss; any PDF with an owner-restriction or open password is rebuilt page by page as images, so pages look identical but text is no longer selectable. Nothing is ever uploaded.

Click to select a PDF file or drag and drop it here.

Works for restricted PDFs and password-protected PDFs.

Frequently asked questions

Will this remove the password from any protected PDF?

It handles two cases. If your PDF has no encryption at all, it is re-saved directly with no quality loss. If your PDF has any owner-password, usage-restriction, or open-password protection, its pages are rebuilt as images (asking you for the password first only if one is actually needed to open the file): they look identical, but the text is no longer selectable or searchable.

Is it safe to enter my PDF's password on this page?

Yes. This tool makes no network requests: your file and password are processed entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib and pdf.js JavaScript libraries. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so there is nothing to intercept or store remotely.

Why is my unlocked PDF's text no longer selectable?

That only happens for PDFs that required a password to open. A browser-based tool cannot fully decrypt that content without a native library, so each page is redrawn as a high-resolution image inside a brand-new PDF. It looks identical and prints fine, but the text becomes part of the image and can no longer be selected, copied, or searched.
